Aesthetic plastic surgeon Mark L. Jewell, MD, of Eugene, Oregon, served as President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in 2005-06. He also serves as a Governor for the National Endowment for Plastic Surgery and as a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Jewell is a former member of the Board of Directors for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). He held the prestigious Joyce Kaye Lectureship from 1998 to 2004 and has taught numerous scientific courses and authored multiple scientific journal articles and book chapters as well as the ASPS Patient Consultation Resource Guide for informed-consent.
Dr. Jewell has made many innovations in how plastic surgery is practiced today in areas of face, breast, and body contouring surgery in addition to tissue fillers, wound healing, and neurotoxin research. He is a key opinion leader in how new products and devices are being brought to the market in order to improve patient outcomes and safety. Dr. Jewell’s contributions to aesthetic surgery have been recognized by his colleagues who awarded him the Tiffany Award for best scientific paper that was given by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Mark Jewell has taught other plastic surgeons in annual meetings and symposia for many years. He also is involved with the education of young plastic surgeons as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at Oregon Health Science University and as a Traveling Professor of Plastic Surgery through the Aesthetic Society. Dr. Jewell has published approximately 70 peer-reviewed papers, books, and book chapters.
Vernon Leroy Young, M.D.

Vernon Leroy Young, M.D., graduated from the University of Kentucky Medical School, then moved to St. Louis for his residency at Washington University School of Medicine, where he remained for 25 years as a professor training residents. In 2002, he left the university to start his own practice, BodyAesthetic Plastic Surgery & Skincare Center, followed by his founding in 2008 of the BodyAesthetic Research Center, which conducts clinical trials related to plastic surgery. Dr. Young has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) and serves on multiple leadership committees, most recently those focused on his interests in patient safety, clinical research, emerging trends, and innovative procedures as a member of ASERF, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation (PSEF). Twice a year he co-chairs the Hot Topics Seminars at the national meetings of ASAPS and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has received numerous honors, including a Distinguished Service Award from ASERF in May 2009. He has twice received the “Award of Excellence for Best Article” published in Aesthetic Surgery Journal. A book edited by Dr. Young, titled Patient Safety in Plastic Surgery, was published by QMP in 2009. This prompted the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons to present him with a special award “In recognition of, and in appreciation for, his dedication and commitment to improving patient safety through the education of plastic surgeons.” More than 150 of his articles have been published in peer-reviewed journals since 1976, and he has contributed chapters to more than 25 books. In addition to ASAPS and ASPS, Dr. Young is a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Association of Plastic Surgeons.
